Product Details

Many a Cumbrian dale needed a corn mill to the feed the Dalesfolk and Boot mill in the wild dale of Eskdale is the oldest surviving one in England. This mill is tucked into the fellside by Whillan beck that races down from the high moor of Burnmoor where the ancient pack routes over the fells steeply descend through the fell gate and over the old pack horse bridge. The mill is neat and sturdy, neither hiding nor rejoicing whilst the beck and mill rumble and churn on together as they have for centuries.

Many corn mills became used for textile weaving or bobbin turning and Boot mill latterly became a bobbin mill making Boot with its Iron mines a busy place. Today the mill can be visited where the way of life in Eskdale too can be glimpsed.
