Many a fine day has been spent marching up the long mine road from Braithwaite, as once the miners did, and ere long the mine mill hoves into view as a sentinel of the past. The old mine is as a cathederal beneath the fells and the mill is its spire, the pinnacle of activity so to speak.
Here, the obstacles of low and high force present a pleasing spectacle in all seasons though they attempt to bar the way to higher fells and ridges. And such is set the lure of these uplands of old and as the miners searched ever deeper and today as we might escape to a wilder time that miners and other folk would know.
The mine mill today is in the care of the National Trust and can be visited several times a year where guides will talk about the industrial and historical aspects of the site.
