Product Details
This remote building at Backstone edge on the back of Cross fell was home and workshop to the Lead miners who toiled underground here. Here, the hardy miners lodged for the week, or longer, sometimes four to a bed, in sparse comfort and yet their work was their comfort for it was the glint in their eyes upon finding the matching glint of lead ore in the dark and strenuous diggings far beneath the resisting fell that made them care not for privacy or homeliness. Yet, with doors and windows battened against storm and gale, this mine shop was a cradle of fellowship arising from the miners' skillful toils together where the darning of clothes, the exchange of tobacco or the close attendance to that evening's cooking pot occupied them well enough.
