Product Details

This portal of the Wad mine, known as Fairey’s stage, peeks out into the secretive Borrowdale valley, where once the prized “Wad” was won from the hard and reluctant volcanic rock, and thus is seen the challenge of working in a high and remote place. A miner at the end of his day’s toil to grasp his prize of Wad, and yes crave it too, would have been glad of this sight and thinking of home. A guardhouse once stood at the mine, witness to armed raids with musket and cudgel, such was the value of Graphite.
