Green crag slate quarry, nestling Haystacks in Buttermere, was served by this bothy with smithy & riving shed. Although dwarfed by its mighty neighbour, this quarry was tenaciously worked by a small company of men and is so typical of hundreds of quarries worked almost at the drop of a hat wherever they could on crag or combe. A fell wanderer, upon finding a remote slate working with perhaps a few ruined riving sheds will be stirred to find their neighbours and other signs in the land and imagine a way of life from long ago.
