Product Details
A local miner from Carrock mine is seen here persevering at the rock drill underground beneath the rich and complex Caldbeck fells. The hard work was offset by the camaraderie and friendship of the men in this wild and adventurous place and this happy company eagerly winkled out their prize beneath the steep fell. This mine was started for lead and any tungsten ore was just dumped on the tip as it could not be then smelted for some decades. The tungsten ore was found in strong veins, but in sporadic and irregular deposits for which the miners had to keep searching, often only learning of their success after the veinstone was processed in the mine’s small mill.
